Anne Welling Knox

Anne is a native of Charleston, South Carolina. On one of her many visits back to the low country, she became friends with Archie Burkel, founder of The Hat Ladies. Anne's love of hats dates back to her childhood days when all Southern girls wore hats to church every Sunday and to all major functions. Her Momma, Louise Welling, was a hat lady in every sense of the word. Its no wonder Anne was eager to start a Hat Ladies cHApTer in northeastern Pennsylvania where she has called home for the last 34 years. The cHApTer began in May, 2003 at a luncheon at The Genetti Hotel in Williamsport, Pa. with about 16 ladies in attendance. Most of these ladies were people that she met on the street while wearing her hat, shopping or going to community functions. As soon as they showed any interest, walla, they became a canidate for the chapter. An article in the Sun-Gazette began to bring more Hat Ladies out of their Hat boxes and our cHApTer found many ladies that love to wear Hats. Anne loves to write and paint and do church work, but most of all loves her husband, Jack, their three children, Cindy, Ed and John & their spouses, Jim Craddock, Dennie, and Karen and her seven beautiful grandchildren (three of whom are hat ladies in training). She can be seen all around Lycoming County, Pa. (where she calls home) wearing her hat.
