SEPTEMBER MEETING:
For those of you who missed the September meeting, you missed a great time.
Everyone looked lovely in their beautiful hats. I wish I could quote each of you
on your mah-velous comments..all 30 of you who braved the rain. Thanks to Esther
Morris & Barb Rider for making the arrangements. The luncheon was mah-velous and
the service great.
WEB SITE:
Our brand new web site is up and running and is superextrasplenderous! Check it
out! Don't you love the music, "Puttin on the hatz"? Thanks to my son, John Knox
(a chip off the old block), for all of his hard work. He did a fabulous job and
I have already heard many nice comments from some of you who have visited the
site. Coming soon you will see pictures. Go to
www.hatladieslycoming.org.
LINKS: You can go to
www.thehatsociety.com and you will see
our event listed each month.
Check out Hatsy & the hat map. One of the best hat sites I have seen on the
internet. (John found all these sites for us.)
CHARLESTON TRIP:
If you want to go to Charleston, South Carolina the weekend of March 4 - 7th,
please let Barb Weaver know no later than October 11th. Her e-mail address is:
DKWBRW@aol.com
or you may telephone her @ 570-398-2785. We are going to have a hat full of fun!
You don't want to miss out. The cost of the travel will be $100 / person:
Lodging: approximately $150/night (divide that by two if you plan to room with
someone), The Hat Ladies High Tea, approximately $25./person; Friday night
dinner cruise around the Charleston Harbor is $50/person. All other expenses
such as tours, meals, shopping are up to you. I will provide names of places to
eat and places to visit in the historic district that you will be able to walk
to (shop of course.) The Top Hat, Archie Burkel, is working on discounts for us.
There is a wonderful Hat Shop, Grace's, that we will try to put on the agenda..
The weather in March is variable, but is usually jacket type weather. Charleston
winds can get cold & damp since you are on the Atlantic Ocean, but nothing close
to Pa weather. We spent four months (Dec - Mar) there last winter and I never
wore a winter coat. Many days were shorts appropriate. The azaleas, camellias
and magnolias start to bloom in March.
HAT EMBELLISHING WORKSHOP:
The workshop will be held on Friday, October 17, 2003 @ 1030 am @ The Magpie in
Lewisburg, Pa. The Cost is $10.00. Bring a naked hat or you may purchase one
there. We will go to lunch afterwards @ The Blue Plate (ordering from the menu).
Please let me know by Oct. 15th if you plan to attend. If we do not get enough
ladies, we will reschedule for next spring.
IN THE HATBOX:
We have some wonderful things in The Hatbox for the following "Meet & Eats":
November 8th: High Tea @ Valley View Nursing Home @ noon. We will promenade
afterwards with the residents. Please bring any extra hats that you don't mind
the residents wearing, and of course, any hand mirrors that you have so that
they may see what they look like.
December 13th @ noon @ The Genetti. We will order off the menu. Dr. Don Hess
will perform with his magical mandolin. Don said that if he was a lady, he would
definitely be a Hat Lady.

UNDER THE HAT:
As Marty Sobosinski and I walked through the parking lot into Johnson's, a lady
wearing a hat, said to us, "You must be The Hat Ladies". See, we are getting
known around town already.
One of the ladies at the luncheon said that a friend had gotten The Hat Ladies
card off the bulletin board at the Car Wash and had given it to her, and she
called and came (and had a great time, I may add).
New Hat Lady, Audrey Murdock, is from England and tells us that everyone wears
hats there. You can even rent a hat for special occasions if you don't have one.
Holly Kremser arrived in a stunning black hat looking like a model. She made
that hat! You can see her hat creations at her home.
What about Barb Long who put a candle ring on her hat and it looked so elegant!
She is so excited about the Charleston trip, she almost has her suitcase packed.
Hat Lady Treasurer, Louise Eakin, arrived in a gorgeous red & white hat that she
had just purchased from The Wardrobe in Lewisburg, Pa. Who knew that they sold
hats? As does The Premiere in Lewisburg.
Hat Lady Andy Doebler always seems to have a wonderful quote from Miss Manners,
Judith Martin. This is just too cute for words.
"In order to decide where to wear your hat, you must listen to what your hat is
so charmingly saying. There are charming little hats that say "When God created
me, He did a fine job, and I am grateful for that," and these hats may be worn
to church. Charming little hats that say, Why, hello there," are better left for
later in the day".
A HUGE TOSS OF THE HAT GOES OUT TO: Brenda Cromley for donating all the colored
computer paper. Now your newsletter will come in living color. THANKS, BRENDA!
HATS OFF TO NEW MEMBERS: JoAnne Castell, Nancy Jacobs, Holly Kremser, Chris
Lisowski, Jane Miller, Deborah Muthler, Audrey Murdock, Jeanne Reeder, Jennifer
Smith, Debbie Thomas & Velda Starkweather. We are so HATpy to have you.
Keep looking for those Hat Ladies who have their hats in the closet. Get your
hat out of the Hatbox, put it on your head and walk proudly to the grocery
store, to church, to the bank, or wherever you go. You are special! You are
charming! You are graceful! You have HATtitude! You ARE a HAT LADY! See you in
Lewisburg. Make your reservations as soon as possible. If I do not respond to a
reservation that you made on line in a prompt fashion, please send it through
again. I absolutely do not want to miss anyone. And if you invite someone to
join us, please emphasize that they must make their reservation with me. I can
not be responsible for reservations that are made directly to Penn Wells Hotel.
Hats & hugs,
Anne
