My Fair Hat Ladies, November's Meet & Eat will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2003 @ 1200 noon @Valley View Nursing Home. We will eat in the lower lobby facing the inner courtyard. Their chef and his staff will prepare lunch consisting of fresh fruit cup, seared chicken, rice pilaf and vegetable dujour. High tea will be served from a separate table where sweet desserts will also be located for your eating pleasure. The meal will be served to you by the department heads of the facility. The cost of the meal is $9.00. (Sorry, but no credit cards are accepted.)

Residents at Valley View are looking forward with great anticipation to the visit from The Hat Ladies of Lycoming County. The residents and staff have heard about the wonderful hats (of all kinds) that are worn by The Hat Ladies every month.

Please pay for your lunch at the reception area in the upper lobby when you arrive. Don't forget to bring extra hats (this is a personal choice) for the residents to try on and hand mirrors so they can see how beautiful they look. The conference room and chapel will be available for you to put your coats and other items, such as mirrors and hats, while you are having lunch. The residents are looking forward to seeing the Hat Ladies Promenade. Jane Miller will be playing the piano and Jean Steinbacher and Barb Weaver will organize and lead the Promenade.

Valley View Nursing Center is located at 2140 Warrensville Road. Take 180, get off at the exit that says Warrensville. Turn left at the red light at the Montoursville Bridge onto Warrensville Road. The facility is located 1.7 miles from that red light. You will pass Four Mile Drive on your left. As you continue on Warrensville Road you will crest a hill. At the top, you will see the facility. Turn right (first road) onto County Home Road. Going a short distance you will turn left onto the grounds.

Reservations must be made by Monday, November 3, 2003 by e-mailing Puttinonthehatz@aol.com or by calling Cindy Craddock @ 570-323-9777.

PLEASE NOTE: IF YOU MAKE A RESERVATION AND DO NOT SHOW UP AND WE ARE BILLED, WE WILL PASS THAT BILL ON TO YOU!
You do not want to miss this event. I guarantee that you will not only have a wonderful time, but you will come away with a full heart by making the residents happy.

CHARTER MEMBERS: I am thrilled to report that we have 53 charter members! Who would have thought in 6 months, so many ladies would open up their hat boxes and put on their hats and come to lunch with us. (well, I did, but I am a dreamer!) It is so good to see all of you looking good, doing good and having such good, clean fun.

OCTOBER MEETING: HATS OFF!! For those of you who could not make the Meet & Eat, you missed a spectacular trunk show by Liz Tews of The Blue Thistle. The Hats and clothes were beautiful and weren't our Hat Ladies, Andy Doebler, Jessica Lalli, and Martie Sobocinski ,as they use to say, "The cat's meow!" Thank you so much for a memorable event. Thanks to Esther Morris & Barb Rider for booking The Penn Wells and Mary Kaye Tibolla for talking to Liz about doing the show.

IN THE HATBOX:

DECEMBER MEETING: Dr. Don Hess has regrettably had to cancelled his appearance due to circumstances beyond his control. He will come at another time. Cindy Craddock will explain the fun thing we are going to do @ the Meet & Eat.. It will be a time for us to get to talk and get to know our new and old members better. It will be a holly, jolly Hat Box time @ The Genetti..

CHARLESTON TRIP: As you read this, I will be looking at the Atlantic Ocean in Charleston, SC (actually Folly Beach, one of the barrier islands around Charleston) from the balcony of our condo. I plan to go see hotels, scope out fun things to do, and meet with Top Hat Archie Burkel and see what kind of discounts that are available for you and have that to Barb Weaver by the time you meet.(phew! Miss Katherine Walsh, my Memminger High School English Teacher, will probably turn over in her grave if she reads that sentence.) I am attending the Hat Ladies of Charleston's Meet & Eat on November 1st, so will report to you at our next meeting. I will miss all of you, but in my absence, my daughter, Cindy Craddock, has offered to take my place and run the meeting. Louise Eakin, Administrator of Valley View, will be your hostess. Thank you so much, Cindy & Louise!

NEW MEMBERS: We are hatpy that the following hat ladies joined us at the October meeting: Bonnie Cahn, Barbara Caldwell, Bettie Gardner, Margaret Hannan, Jane Hart, Linda Kopyscianski, Gail Landers, Carol Lichty, Sue Mahoney, and Mary Moriarity. We are so HATpy to have all of you.

UNDER THE HAT:
I just have to put Jean Steinbacher's little poem about her vintage hat that she was wearing in our newsletter:
"I don't know where you have been
And I don't know where you have gone,
But this could be your final outing
"cause you are a bit too worn!"
As Jean was leaving the Penn Wells she saw a lady who was probably 85 or 90 years old in the lobby of the hotel. She looked at her with the greatest expression as if she had slipped back to an earlier time of her life. Maybe it was her hat that Jean was wearing!
When you wear your hats, you will hear many stories from many ladies and gentlemen of times when they were hat wearers or about their Mothers or aunts or sisters. You evoke wonderful times and memories. You are giving something special to those who see you walking down the street. Stop and watch the expressions and smiles that people give you, it will make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Like I've told you, it's all about hattiude!
Keep looking for those special Hat Ladies wherever you go. Invite them to join us, the more the merrier! Make your reservation for Valley View as soon as possible. I will respond as quickly as possible and if I do not, please resubmit it as it may have not reached me.
See you all in December, take a lot of pictures at Valley View. I will miss not being there.

Hats & hugs,
Anne
