My Fair Hat Ladies, I can hardly believe that it has been two short years since I started this cHApTer of The Hat Ladies. I would never have guessed that it would only take my hat to get to know such delightful ladies as all of you. I would like to thank you from the top of my hat for all of your support. It's May! Come dressed in the hat that you would wear to The Kentucky Derby or The Preakness. A prize will be awarded to the fanciest Derby type hat!

Auction: LADIES, YOU OUT DID YOURSELVES! We made $400! All proceeds from the auction will go to The American Cancer Society Relay For Life (Hughesville) in memory of Hat Lady Suzanne Taggart Lalli. I know Suze is smiling down on us.
GETTING TO KNOW NEW PEOPLE: It was so much fun to sit with other people, we will again set name tags at your places. PRAYERS: Go out to Carol Kline, Barb Long, Tricia Mauelen, Marie Prato, Mary Kaye Tibolla & Mary Ann Munro. We hope these ladies are doing better by the time you get this.
UNDER THE HAT: June 5 & 6th are the dates for Relay of Life in Hughesville. It is being held at the High School football field. If you are a cancer survivor, you are invited to come on Friday evening at 5:30pm. There will be a Survivors Walk and a buffet that is donated by SHS. All others who would like to walk in memory of a love one may do so @ 9pm. We will meet at the food stand @ 8:30pm at the information booth so that we can sit & walk as a group. You may purchase a luminary to honor a love one prior to the service. The luminaries are lit around the field and all names are read. It is a moving and inspirational service.
HOT HAT HATPENINGS: Did you see the wonderful article in the Sun on the Jersey Shore Library Tea? The pictures featured Bev Ellis, Jean Steinbacher and Audrey Murdock. The Hat Ladies tipping their hats once again!
YOU ARE CODIALLY INVITED TO ATTEND: AFTER FIVE MEETING @ THE RADDISON ON THURSDAY, MAY 26TH @ 6:30 PM. I WILL BE THE GUEST SPEAKER AND MY TALK IS ENTITLED: HAT TALES . DINNER IS $16. (ALL INCLUSIVE) CALL KATHY WHIPPLE @ 584-2912 FOR RESERVATIONS OR SEE ME AT THE MEETING. THERE WILL BE A SEA OF HATS THERE AND A FUN WAY TO SPEND YOUR EVENING!
REMINDER: ALL DUES WILL BE DUE AT THE MAY MEETING. We are going on a new schedule with everyone paying annual dues at the same time in order to simplify it. Regardless of the month that you joined, your dues for the next year will be due in May. Dues are $20 if you have email and $25 if you do not. You must also submit 12 self stick, self addressed, stamped business envelopes to me. Please make sure that we have your correct address, phone number & email address. If you pay at the luncheon, please put your dues in a sealed envelope with your name, address, telephone number, email address and amount that you paid. I can not accept dues any other way, as it presents mass confusion and mistakes. After May, if you are a member, your reservation will not be taken until you have paid your dues for the year. Thank you for your cooperation.
JUNE 12th: OUR SECOND ANNUAL PROMENADE @ 2:00 PM. Plan to start gathering no later than 130pm. PLEASE PLAN TO COME AND BRING ALL OF YOUR HATTED FRIENDS. THIS IS SO MUCH FUN AND WE ARE DEFINITELY THE BELLES OF THE PARK. DETAILS LATER. This is definitely something that your daughters and granddaughters….husbands, sons & grandsons will want to participate in. Ask the husbands who participated last year, they enjoyed it as much as we did. This is not a parade! We do not wear goofy hats, but come in our best bib and tucker and promenade.
HAT LADY MONETARY AWARD: Once again, we will be presenting this award to a High School Senior at Jersey Shore High School. If any of you are high school teachers, please let me know.
A THANKS: BIG HATS OFF TO LIZ TEWS OF THE BLUE THISTLE, VAL & CHARLIE MERRILL, AND MARGARET HANNAN (Suzanne's sister) for donating hats for us to auction off. And to all of you who brought gently used hats and to those of you who bought hats, we thank you.
If we could capture the joy that we bring to others just by wearing our hats and put it in a bottle and sell it, we would be as rich as we are in our hearts.
Welcome to new chapters in Georgetown,S.C. & California.
Come prepared to share your hat stories with all of us! And to tell the thing that you enjoy most about being a member of The Hat Ladies. Keep wearing your hat!
Hugs, Anne
