HATPY NEW YEAR!
OUR TOP HAT, ARCHIE BURKEL, HAS DECLARED 2004, THE YEAR OF THE HAT AND WHAT A
YEAR IT IS GOING TO BE. SO HOLD ONTO YOUR HATS LADIES AND GET READY FOR PUTTIN
ON THE HATZ IN FINE FASHION AND GREAT FUN.
The January "Meet and Eat" will be held on Saturday, January 10th
@ The Genetti Hotel @ 1200 noon. We will have a buffet ($9.65 which includes tax
& gratuity). Purchase your ticket from the cashier as you enter.
Reservations must be made by Monday, January 5th
either by e-mailing me @
Puttinonthehatz@aol.com or calling
570-546-2012. Reminder: YOU WILL BE BILLED IF WE ARE BILLED.
Deb Parsons
will be our guest speaker. She is a lamp worker who makes wonderful glass
jewelry and hat pins. Also, don't forget to bring a can of something or a
donation for our SOUPER BOWL. We will take
all donations to St Anthony's for their food bank for the homeless. Pennsylvania
can get mighty cold in the winter and we want to help those who have no hats or
place to call home.
Keep in mind the words of Edward Everett Hale, a nineteenth-century American
clergyman, who said:
I am only one,
But I am one,
I can't do everything,
But still I can do something;
And because I cannot do everything
I will not refuse to do the something that I can do.
Our mantra is to look good while doing good!
DECEMBER MEETING:
The hat boxes were gorgeous and gifts were even better. I hope everyone had as
good a time as I did. Thanks to Cindy Craddock for the idea. Thanks to Esther
Morris for making the arrangements with The Genetti.
IN THE HATBOX:
We have some wonderful things to look forward to in 2004.
FEBRUARY 14th MEETING: We will meet
@ Hoss'es. Salad Bar will be $9. which includes tax and gratuity. Barb Schmouder
will do a program on HATS.
MARCH: NO MEETING. Hat ladies will
be in Charleston.
APRIL 10th MEETING: Gail Wood will
be our guest speaker. She will talk about "Look Good, Feel Better". Afterwards,
we will have a hat auction with proceeds going to the American Cancer Society
for a survivor to buy a hat or wig.
HOT HATPENINGS FOR PUTTIN ON THE
HATZ:
I received a book for Christmas called CROWNS
by Michael Cunningham & Craig Marberry. Currently, running in Washington,
D.C. is a show called CROWNS based on this book. It will run
through February 15th at Arena Stage's Kreeger Theater. Call 202-488-3300
for tickets or visit
www.arenastage.org
for information.
Take time to visit Gifts of Art (located next to Otto's bookstore). Did
you know that they sell hats made by local artists?
Another place to visit is the Gift Shop at The New Berlin Inn in New Berlin, Pa.
I understand that they have great hats also.
Check the Web or the Sun-Gazette for lots of wonderful cultural events to wear
your hats too.
WEB SITE:
Coming soon....pictures of you at the luncheon. If you do not want your picture
to appear on our web site, please let me know.
HATS OFF TO A NEW MEMBER:
Donna Zimmermann joined our group in December and we are so very hatpy to have
her. Make sure you meet Donna and welcome her to our group.
CHARLESTON TRIP:
There is still time to make your reservations for the Charleston trip if you
would like to go. E-mail Barb Weaver @
DKWBRW@aol.com or telephone her @ 570-398-2785.
We have so many wonderful events scheduled and all 10 of us (so far) are going
to have a hatpy time.
UNDER THE HAT:
You would not believe how many phone calls I receive telling me how wonderful
they think that The Hat Ladies are. So keep wearing your hats and
recruiting more ladies....the more the merrier! We have an opportunity to make a
statement in our community, that we not only look terrific, but we do meaningful
things to help our community in the process.
I wish for all of you that 2004 will be a year filled with love, good friends,
good health, good spirit, a great hattitude, and of course, many hats in your
closet.
See you at the luncheon.
Hugs, Anne
