My Fair Hat Ladies, Neither snow or sleet nor rain nor ice nor hobbling
on crutches could keep us from putting on our hatz for our January "Meet &
Eat". The Souper Bowl was a great success and Sojourner Truth Church had just
coincidently run out of soup mix. They were oh so grateful. Thanks to all of
you who donated! I sent a picture to The Sun Gazette, now let's see if they run
it. We can only hope. Val-Knitz's hats and scarves were fabulous and a lot of
our folks will be decked out in style on cold wintry days.
February 12th Meet & Eat: 1200 noon @ The Genetti Hotel in Williamsport.
It will be a buffet. Cost is $10.00 (which includes tax & tip).
Reservations: must be made by Wednesday, February 9th.
Please remember that you may make reservations by email or telephone to Cindy
but cancellations should be done by telephoning Cindy Craddock @ 570-323-9777.
If I do not respond within 24 hrs of your sending email, please resubmit. Thank
you. I will be in Charleston for the month of February and March.
Bring your best Sweetheart Hat Stories to tell. It will be a fun day for
all. I will miss being there.
Reminder: Please pay for your lunch at the front desk as you enter and
receive a ticket. Put the ticket by your seat and the waitress will collect
them. Please make note if someone has their ticket or purse placed at a seat,
please find another one. Also if you notice that chairs are turned up, that
seat has already been taken. This will avoid a lot of confusion.
Tip of the Hat to our new members: Harriet Cole, Shelly Gottleib, Brigit
Schult & Janet Sherman. Please make them welcome.
Prayers go out to Suzanne Taggart- Lalli, Marie Prato, Mary Kaye Tibolla,
Louise Ulmer & Mary Ann Munro.
UNDER THE HAT: The article in Creative Home Magazine was wonderful as
were the cute pictures of Archie Burkel, the founder of the National
Organization.
The Blue Thistle has all their winter hats @ 40% off (including Christine A.
Moore hats). Might be worth a trip to Wellsboro.
Look for an article in The Web by Louise Ulmer about our very own lovely Nessie
Whaley.
REMINDER: If you have not paid your dues for this year, please do so
now. To pay dues, send a check made out to The Hat Ladies to Louise Eakin,
Treasurer @738 Brick Church Rd, Montgomery, Pa. 17752. Dues are $20 if you have
email and $25 if you do not. You must also submit 12 self stick, self
addressed, stamped business envelopes to me. If you pay at the luncheon, please
put your dues in a sealed envelope with your name and amount that you paid. I
can not accept dues any other way, as it presents mass confusion and mistakes.
Thank you for your cooperation. We are in the process of restructuring how we
collect dues. Next year, all annual dues will be due in MAY! It is easier for
our treasurer to keep up with. Our year runs from May to May. Anyone who can
join during the year, but will be assessed for annual dues @ the May meeting or
you may pay by mail.
MARCH: NO MEETING CHARLESTON TRIP. You will not receive a Newsletter until
the end of March.
April 9th: Orlando's. $12.(tax, tip included). Once again, we will
have a slightly used hat auction. Reservations may be made by calling Cindy
Craddock (323-9777) or by email and must be made by Wednesday, April 6th.
Benefits will go to The American Cancer Society and to support our Relay For
Life team.
FASHION WITH COMPASSION:
We have been asked to put together a Relay for Life Team. The event will be
held on Friday, June 3rd (begins @ 4 pm) and Saturday, June 4th (10am - 4pm)
at Hughesville High School. Please let me know asap if you are interested. I
am looking for 5 - 15 people that would like to participate. We will not turn
anyone away that wants to be a part of our team. It is an opportunity to
celebrate life for cancer survivors. On Friday evening there will be a Luminary
Service @ 9pm. We will walk in honor of Suzanne Taggart-Lalli, our dear Hat
Lady who is battling cancer. We are required to put up an registration fee so I
would like to know asap who would be interested. You do not have to be there
the whole time. We can swap off. If I can find a tent, we will have one and
everyone can bring a lawn chair. If you are a cancer survivor, please let me
know as they would like to issue you a special invitation. It is a fun time as
well as a time for rememberance. Cancer is a dreaded disease and even with so
many new drugs, it is yet to be eradicated. Each team member would get people
to sponsor her while she is walking. I do need a Captain. Let me know asap if
you are interested in this job.
There will be no Newsletter in March as 12 of us will be in Charleston, South
Carolina at the Mini Convention of The Hat Ladies having a hat full of fun. I
hope by the time this reaches you, I will be walking without an aid of a crutch
or cane & basking in the warmth of the South Carolina sun watching the ocean by
day and watching a beautiful sunset and looking at the star lit sky at night.
Have a great time at our Meet & Eat. Don't forget to make your reservation for
the Genetti.
Hugs,
Anne
